Tracy is an industrious mum who has found a way to get creative and generate extra income, all while being as present as possible for her family. Crafting her colourful hair accessories can take place around whatever is happening with the kids. It’s also a flexible solution to a second family income stream with her husband serving in the defence force. “In 2014 we moved to Queensland and I gave up my nursing career and just did markets,” Tracy reveals.
Tracy’s point of difference is that she ensures she is across all the latest trends. “Bluey is the latest theme at the moment so I make as much of that as I can because it just goes so quickly.” To create her amazing range of scrunchies, Tracy machine-sews the fabric strips, threads the elastic, then hand-sews to join and finish her product. “I enjoy doing scrunchies now because it’s something new.”
Handmade by Tracy has been with the Springfield Markets team for four years. “Management here is lovely, the best. I do a lot of markets and Vicki is the best organiser, she looks after us, very approachable, just great.” She describes the recent COVID-19 lockdown period as “very isolating.” Like her fellow stallholders, Tracy has greatly missed the social contact with the public. Not to mention Grains on Green, which is a market food favourite for her whole family.
